FROZEN

NEWS - Children like to share their news on Fridays in Room 1. The wild weather prompted a great opportunity for the children to look at carefully collected hail stones.

FROZEN mentioned and not a Christmas float or princess in sight.

Creativity - Dance

Using Maui and the Sun as a stimulus, Room 1, 2 and 3 children have the opportunity to select their preferred inquiry focus - We worked on a dance interpretation of the story.

Working as a vertical community helped empower leaders and support less confident dancers to get swept along with the experts.

We then performed the dances to the tech group who used i movies to edit the clips. Come and see the performances in our sharing afternoon (Wed. 10th Dec 2.30-4pm)

Road Safety with Constable Dave

We worked in teams to build the puzzle pieces and recreate the photo. We then inquired to work out what the road dangers could be.
We presented our picture findings to each other.

Neeeee Naahhhh!

We went down to the fire station today to thank the fire fighters for their visit on week one. We wrote thank you letters and drew pictures to thank the guys and girls for all the amazing work they do.                                                                    .

 Dear fire fighters

Thank you for coming to our school. I liked the fire truck. I liked it when the hose sprayed air on us.

From Lewis

We may have walked down but we got a fun ride  back. Wow what a great surprise that was! Thanks Kumeu Fire Fighters. You are fantastic!

How do we find out what we want to find out?

We used the iPad to google and look on You tube for child friendly sites that teach us about what animals eat. We then shared our findings with the rest of the class.

Our research on 'You tube' allowed us to find great child friendly documentaries about animal diets.

This group were keen to find out about how animals move. We then sorted and classified the information we gathered.

This group researched animal habitats. We looked at where animals live and how animal bodies change to adapt to environments. Drawing, planning and presenting their findings to the class.

Look how much we have grown!!!

We discussed MRS GREN and what our plants need to grow successfully. The little pots in class were no longer big enough for our beans to grow. Room 1 searched the school for the best environment to nuture our beans. So we planted in the community garden.

Sun! Seedlings! Smiles! One day beans for lunch!

Inquiring writers

With the help of some experts, the children were extended to research their own animal images using google on iPads. Ah cute pussy cats!

Having created a group plan, the children then used the information to write an animal report. Empowered by working together.

Room 1 and 8 students were completely engaged working in small groups to describe what their chosen animal looked like. We used thinking maps to order our thoughts.
